As the newly elected MEPs are gearing up for the first week of intense work at the Parliament, which is, coincidently, also the last one before the summer break, EURACTIV brings you all chairs of the Parliament’s 22 committees at a glance. The Committees’ week will start on Monday (22 July) with the meeting of Budgets (BUDG), Economic Affairs (ECON) and Culture (CULT) committees, starting from 3 pm. The latter should also elect its 3rd and the 4th vice-chairs. There are still some political knots to untangle and high-level roles to assign. Three committees, Foreign Affairs (AFET), Regional Development (REGI) and Constitutional Affairs (AFCO), have yet to elect almost the entire Bureau. Indeed, at their constitutive meetings, they decided to not proceed further for the risk of not appointing enough women, as Rule 213 of Parliaments’ Rules of Procedure explicitly forbids to have an all-male or all-female bureau. But it also still an open the race for the third vice-chairs of Agriculture (AGRI) and Justice (LIBE) committees, which should go to candidates from two controversial parties, Hungarian Fidesz and Spanish Vox, both considered worthy of a cordon sanitaire by some political groups.
