The textile and fashion sector: A powerhouse of EU manufacturing

The textile and clothing sector is a powerful manufacturing industry in Europe. Each step of the production chain is present in the European Union.

The 178,000 innovative and creative European textile and fashion companies are predominantly SMEs, employing directly 1.7 million employees. Those firms strongly cooperate with other industries, service providers, consumers and authorities in the EU and worldwide, achieving a turnover of €171 billion in 2016.

Today the textile & clothing sector, being deeply reorganised and boosted by innovations, faces new challenges and opportunities. Among them, circular economy and sustainability are crucial for the future of the society, company growth and job creation. That will be the topic of the EURATEX General Assembly on 8 June 2017.
